Votre mission

The position is hosted at Nantes Université and attached to the CREN research center.

CREN is a research laboratory in Education Sciences affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Languages within the Humanities Division of Nantes Université. The position is primarily connected to the activities of Theme 3 — Policies and Actors in Education and Training. The successful candidate will also be able to develop collaborations with the Department of Education Sciences within the faculty.

The position involves contributing to a research project examining how Master’s admissions committees at universities take applicants’ social and educational trajectories into account. More specifically, the project investigates how committee members evaluate applicants’ prior educational backgrounds (institution of origin, academic results, type of secondary-

school track, possible academic reorientations, etc.). The project relies on data production through vignette methods, analysis of the MonMaster database (accessible through the CASD secure data center), and observations of admissions committee meetings.

The aim is to contribute to a better understanding of socio-educational inequalities in higher education by focusing on a stage of student trajectories that has so far received limited attention.

This project is part of the Chair on Social Inclusion in Higher Education, one of the initiatives implemented by Nantes Université within its “Social Inclusion” roadmap and, more broadly, within the OUVERTURE project (2024–2030), funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) under the PIA4 programme. The Chair has been active since early 2024.

Le profil idéal

  • Recognised Researcher in educational sociology

  • PHD Level

The successful candidate will work primarily at the CREN offices at Nantes Université, except when conducting fieldwork (data collection) or participating in dissemination activities (conferences, seminars, etc.).

The position will be supervised by Ines Albandea and Alice Pavie.

The work will be monitored through regular meetings with the research team.

If desired, the successful candidate may also teach undergraduate courses in Education Sciences at Nantes Université.

Part of the candidate’s working time may be dedicated to disseminating the results of their PhD research and/or preparing applications for permanent academic positions.
